FACTORY CODE OF CONDUCT
1. Respect & inclusivity
Treat everyone with kindness and respect, regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability level, or background.
Avoid assumptions or judgments about anyone’s dance experience or preferences.
Use inclusive language and actions that reflect a community-oriented mindset.
2. Consent & personal boundaries
Always ask for a dance; never assume someone wants to dance. There can be a hundred different reasons, so don’t take it personally.
Respect “no” without pressure or questioning. Everyone has the right to decline or stop a dance at any time.
Respect personal space. Be mindful of physical cues and adjust your lead or follow accordingly to ensure a comfortable experience for your partner.
Respect personal hygiene. Shower, use deodorant, and brush your teeth before dancing. Just because your nose is used to it, doesn’t mean your dance partners are.
3. Safe movements
Prioritize safety in all movements. Avoid forceful leads, dips, lifts, or any movement that could cause discomfort or injury unless both partners are experienced and have consented.
If an accidental injury or discomfort occurs, stop and check in with your partner.
4. Learning & growth
Foster a culture of encouragement over critique. Give feedback only when asked, or during a designated feedback session/class setting.
Keep an open mind to different styles and approaches to bachata (sensual, Dominican, fusion, etc.).
Share knowledge with humility. No one is above learning.
5. Anti-harassment policy
Harassment of any kind, verbal, physical, or digital, will not be tolerated. This includes unwanted flirting, touching, or repeated unwanted advances.
Report any inappropriate behavior to a team member or designated contact immediately. All reports will be taken seriously and treated with confidentiality.
6. Community conduct
Support fellow dancers on and off the dance floor.
Respect venue spaces, property, and event rules.
As members of our organization, how we show up at public events and festivals reflects on the whole community. Let’s represent our organization with kindness, inclusivity, and good vibes, and always strive to set a positive example to inspire others.
7. Accountability and communication
Violation of this Code of Conduct may result in a warning or removal from events or the organization.
The Code applies to everyone, including instructors, team members, and participants alike.
For minor violations of the Code, we encourage you to speak directly with the person involved, as long as you feel safe and comfortable doing so. Together, we can take ownership of building the respectful and supportive community we all want to be part of, and help each other to improve as individuals. Let’s deal with issues honestly and respectfully, not behind each other’s backs.
If repeated or major violations of the Code occur, please report it to a team member or designated contact. All reports will be taken seriously and treated with confidentiality.
8. Feedback welcome
As an organization we’re always striving to improve. Feel free to provide respectful feedback, both positive and constructive, to the leadership team to help us better serve the community.
